A Hamburg, Germany, apartment building intends to generate heat from its vertical algae farm on the sides of the building, according to an article in The New York Times. The five-story Bio Intelligent Quotient building, which relies entirely on renewable energy, has a $6.58 million high-tech façade with 129 bioreactors.
The flat glass panels double as solar thermal collectors, which uses the energy to heat water or is stored in the building’s underground geothermalsystem.
