A UA member who was only 29 years old was among the 58 people killed during the Oct. 1 massacre in Las Vegas. An additional 489 people were injured in the mass shooting, which occurred at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival near the Luxor and Mandalay Bay casinos.

Austin Davis of Riverside, Calif., was a pipefitter with UA Local 364 in California.

Davis “had a bright future in our union," fellow union member Daniel Kirkconnell told USA Today in an interview. "Austin was supposed to be home playing softball and he made a last-minute choice to stay in Vegas for a little longer."

"It is with the heaviest of hearts that I, along with Local 364, share with our UA family that we have lost one of our own in the Las Vegas shooting," UA General President Mark McManus said. "As all Americans and the world learned the truly sickening details of the Las Vegas shooting, we are now beyond stunned at the loss of one of our brothers. May God bless the Davis family and Austin's loved ones during this troubling time."

"On behalf of the 344,000 members of the United Association, our thoughts and prayers will always be there for the Davis family." A GoFundMe page for a memorial fund had raised over $14,000 of a $20,000 goal as of noon on Wednesday.
