During the week of June 24, PHCC and industry counterparts participated in High Performance Buildings Week. The week is an annual event hosted by the High Performance Buildings Coalition (or HPBC, of which PHCC is a member) to advocate for legislation and appropriations priorities that promote building performance and efficiency. The Coalition includes construction industry stakeholders such as codes and standards, manufacturers and associations representing various facets of the built environment.

Representatives met with over a dozen House and Senate offices to urge passage of the Health H2O Act, the PRO Codes Act, and reauthorization of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act (WIOA), in addition to continued funding for workforce training programs that open pathways into the building trades. The week culminated in a panel discussion with Congressional staff and representatives from FEMA, the Department of Energy, the Green Buildings Initiative and the International Code Council on maintaining building resiliency in extreme outdoor heat.

HPBC is one of many coalitions in which PHCC is involved to promote the policy priorities of plumbing and HVAC contractors before industry stakeholders and federal policymakers. Its coalition work has been instrumental in reinforcing PHCC’s presence on Capitol Hill and in state capitals across the country.
