How long have you been in the PHCP-PVF industry?
RC: I just surpassed 10 years as a designer, and I also worked in the field for six years prior to that.
What drew you into the industry?
RC: My dad’s best friend from high school owned a local plumbing conditioning company and hired me to assist him on weekends. I discovered I had a knack for the job and really enjoyed it, so I decided to stick with it!
What is the most rewarding aspect of working in the industry?
RC: The most rewarding part of my career is giving back to both my local community and the entire state by working on projects that enhance the safety, security and well-being of the population. I take pride in contributing my expertise to projects such as police stations, fire stations, educational facilities and the numerous California State Parks projects that many can enjoy.
What motivates you every day?
RC: What motivates me is knowing that, even though I primarily work in the office and go to the same place every day, no two days are ever the same. Each new project brings fresh challenges, especially when they move into the construction phase. I enjoy constant problem-solving and collaborating with my teammates at 3C Engineering, who share the same values in teamwork, innovation and strategic thinking. Working with talented professionals, both in-office and with clients, who bring diverse ideas keeps me inspired and engaged.
What is one thing you wish more people knew/understood about the PHCP-PVF industry?
RC: I wish people understood the critical importance of properly designing plumbing systems and using the correct materials based on the project's location and type. Doing things right the first time is far better than trying to patch things together later.
What has been your proudest moment in your career so far?
RC: My proudest moment in my career so far has been earning my Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) certificate. This accomplishment represents a significant milestone in my professional journey, reflecting my dedication to mastering the intricacies of plumbing design. I'm grateful to 3C Engineering for supporting and encouraging my professional development and providing incentives, which, combined with my dedication, were instrumental in helping me achieve this milestone.
What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
RC: Most people don't know that when I was seven years old, I won a James Dean look-alike contest at the James Dean Memorial Junction near Paso Robles, California.
