How long have you been in the PHCP-PVF industry?
SD: Two years, two months.
What drew you into the industry?
SD: I grew up in the building industry and was drawn to residential MEP engineering because it allows me to combine my passion for leadership, project management and problem-solving with my interest in creating functional, efficient living spaces. I love tackling the challenges of managing a robust team of technical subject matter experts who are involved in designing systems that enhance comfort and sustainability in homes.
What is the most rewarding aspect of working in the industry?
SD: My greatest reward is having a hand in the personal and professional growth of my team, watching them improve day to day motivates me to continue waking up in the morning eager to drive constant improvement for both our employees and our clients. The opportunity to see the direct impact of our work and to collaborate with other professionals in the field makes this career both rewarding and engaging.
What motivates you every day?
SD: The opportunity to be at the helm of something great, leaving a lasting impression and impact on not only our clients but on the hard-working people on the team. Every day is a new challenge and opportunity to improve!
What is one thing you wish more people knew/understood about the PHCP-PVF industry?
SD: I wish there was more understanding and respect around the complexity and intricacy of designing a safe, efficient and comfortable home. The commodities within a home are often luxuries that people do not have to think about; we are privileged to be able to provide such things through critical planning and extremely high level of detail and quality.
What has been your proudest moment in your career so far?
SD: The proudest moments for me are all centered around the professional growth of the members of my team. Watching them grow and thrive through succession leadership planning and professional development is the most rewarding part of my job. Nothing makes me happier than giving people the tools and mentorship that they need to one day fill my position better than I have.
What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
SD: That I train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. It is an incredibly challenging martial art, which has rendered so many benefits to not only my physical fitness and overall health but in my mental fortitude and resilience.
