How long have you been in the PHCP-PVF industry?

KD: I’ve been in the industry since 2008, so 16 years now.

What drew you into the industry?

KD: I started off in college. I was originally working in manufacturing, and there was a course I had to take my senior year for HVAC. Just going through that course and learning about the HVAC design and whatnot, it had me interested in MEP. So once I graduated, I decided to pursue that route.

What is the most rewarding aspect of working in the industry?

KD: I guess there's two things for me. Being acknowledged for the work, and then actually seeing the work installed and being used is definitely a rewarding factor for me.

What motivates you every day?

KD: As of recently, I became a supervisor/leader or mentor, if you will, to younger engineers. Taking what I've learned in the past 16 years and then trying to break that down to the next generation and teaching them and bringing them up to speed is definitely motivating because I once was in their shoes being taught, being mentored. Now, I get to play that position.

What is one thing you wish more people knew/understood about the PHCP-PVF industry?

KD: The difficulty of the design. I think people tend to believe that because we're dealing with pipe systems that what we do should be fairly simple, when in reality, it's not. There are a lot of factors that need to be taken into consideration, calculations that need to be performed and just other parameters. It really takes being diligent, being disciplined in order to design a really good system.

What has been your proudest moment in your career so far?

KD: I would have to say the proudest moment was Altieri promoting me to an Associate position, because it reflected my hard work not only being recognized but also appreciated. This moment was the highlight of my career.

What is one thing that most people don't know about you?

KD: One thing people may not know about me is that I’ve completed a running event of 10 miles in each one of the five NYC boroughs!
