How long have you been in the PHCP-PVF industry?
MF: I have been in the Industry for six years.
What drew you into the industry?
MF: Growing up in high school, I took all the engineering/drafting classes that I could and was honored with the 2006 Engineering Technology Award for my high school. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to do electrical design for aircraft carriers, HVAC design for multi-use facilities, and then ended up having the opportunity to move over to the plumbing department, which really intrigued me.
What is the most rewarding aspect of working in the industry?
MF: The most awarding aspect is the connections you make you make in the field, whether it be through the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) or just meeting manufacturers' representatives, it is great to be able to share knowledge with each other in our field and develop friendships that last a lifetime.
What motivates you every day?
MF: My motivation every day is knowing that I am blessed to have a lot of positivity in my life, from family to friends, to the work environment. My goal each day is to be the best that I can be that day, and even though sometimes a wrench gets thrown into the day, take a breath, reset and start fresh.
What is one thing you wish more people knew/understood about the PHCP-PVF industry?
MF: I wish that people understood a little more of what goes on behind the scenes of plumbing and HVAC systems There are people who spend their careers carefully planning and designing to meet different code and jurisdiction requirements, all while making sure that it can be the most efficient well-designed system for the owner and comfortable for the end user.
What has been your proudest moment in your career so far?
MF: In April of this year, I took my Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) test through ASPE and passed. When I received the letter, certificate, and designation through ASPE it really proves that all the hard work, studying, and work experience truly paid off.
What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
MF: This for me is a hard question, I’m an open book, but I would say that I try my hardest to not take anything for granted. I have been through a lot in my life and every day I wake up and try to be the best version of myself that I can be and really appreciate the life that I have been blessed with.
