How long have you been in the PHCP-PVF industry?
MP: Eight years.
What drew you into the industry?
MP: After graduating college, I didn’t know much about this industry. I knew I wanted to find a design-oriented role. I had worked internships in the manufacturing industry, and I wanted to find something that gave me more freedom to lead projects. I was introduced to this industry at a career fair, and the rest is history. I’ve been working as a project engineer for the past eight years.
What is the most rewarding aspect of working in the industry?
MP: Working on large, complicated projects for years and seeing them through completion. My day-to-day responsibilities have me behind a computer screen, so it’s always the most rewarding to travel to job sites to see the progress. Seeing our designs transform from 2D drawings into full building systems always keeps me excited to start the next project.
What motivates you every day?
MP: My family. I strive to always work hard and deliver to make them proud.
What is one thing you wish more people knew/understood about the PHCP-PVF industry?
MP: One thing I didn’t realize until I entered the industry, is how much multi-discipline coordination goes into projects. There are consultants/specialists for each field, and we all need to work together throughout design to complete a project. Teamwork is paramount to be successful in this industry.
What has been your proudest moment in your career so far?
MP: Receiving my PE license was one of my proudest personal achievements. A lot of additional time and energy was spent after work hours in preparation for the test and it was a signature moment for my career. Another proud moment came at the completion of my first data center project. This project took over three years of hard work and seeing the building fully operational and turned over the client was a surreal experience. A lot of lessons were learned along the way, but it was a special moment in my career.
What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
MP: I am big Chicago sports fan. The last couple years have been rough, but I’m hopeful better days are ahead!
