How long have you been in the PHCP-PVF industry?

MS: I’ve been working as a commercial plumbing designer now for almost eight years. I’ve worked primarily in the health care market for the duration.

What drew you into the industry?

MS: I took several drafting classes in high school and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I decided this may be a good career for me. As I progressed, I gradually graduated from just a drafter to plumbing designer and the rest is history.

What is the most rewarding aspect of working in the industry?

MS: I consider every project to be a mystery that needs solving, especially existing renovations. When I’m able to piece together all the clues to solve the mystery that is the various plumbing systems, I feel satisfied.

What motivates you every day?

MS: My motivation would be cultivating a healthy and happy relationship with our clients and my work counterparts.

What is one thing you wish more people knew/understood about the PHCP-PVF industry?

MS: I wish people better understood how intricate a plumbing system can truly be. There’s an average level of plumbing knowledge that most individuals have, and it typically does not scratch the surface of what can go into a commercial building plumbing system.

What has been your proudest moment in your career so far?

MS: I’m proud of various projects I’ve completed during my tenure, but receiving the ASPE Award of Excellence is the highest on my list. For the uninitiated, ASPE is the American Society of Plumbing Engineers.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?

MS: People know that I like to stay active, but they may not know that I enjoy cycling. I prefer to use my bike for commuting whenever possible and am passionate about improving biking infrastructure in the United States.
