IAPMO announced today the long-anticipated result of its Application for Accreditation under the Organization Method as a developer of American National Standards. By letter dated Mar. 30, 2001, IAPMO was informed that the ANSI Executive Standards Council had approved IAPMO's accreditation application. The proceedures accredited by ANSI contemplate the continued involvement of the NFPA Standards Council in the development process of the Uniform Plumbing Code and the Uniform Mechanical Code.
As an accredited standards developer under the Organizational Method, IAPMO is now poised to develop the Uniform Plumbing Code and Uniform Mechanical Code as American National Standards. These codes will become part of the 2003 Consensus Code Set, the first true family of consensus codes being developed by IAPMO and its industry partners, the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) and the Western Fire Chiefs Association (WFCA).
