The Commission is charged with reviewing, approving and publishing building standards adopted by state agencies. Every three years, the Commission publishes a new edition of the California Building Standards Code in an effort to keep the standards updated.
In addition, the Commission voted to use the 2000 edition of the Uniform Fire Code, developed by the WFCA, and the 2000 editions of the Uniform Mechanical Code and the Uniform Plumbing Code, developed by IAPMO, to address other safety issues. The Commission had previously used the 1997 editions of the UFC, UMC and UPC.
The National Electrical Code continues to be the basis for the California Electric Code.
