Effective May 1, 2002, continuing education for all plumbing and gas inspectors was mandated in Massachusetts after almost 10 years of planning. This applies to all of the 400 plus full-time, part-time and alternate inspectors. The legislation requires 12 total hours per year during the two-year licensing period. The 12 total hours consists of two four-hour classroom sessions and four hours of "electives," which include seminars, field trips and similar educational programs. IAPMO was selected to administer the program.
