Wöhler helps veterans find industry jobs
Wöhler USA recently teamed up with VetsBuild Long Island, a United Way
program that trains veterans in green construction and helps them network with
those who are already in the industry.

The unemployment rate for post-9/11 veterans is 9.2%. Wöhler USA recently teamed up with VetsBuild Long Island, a United Way program that trains veterans in green construction and helps them network with those who are already in the industry. VetsBuild Long Island will provide veterans with free career counseling, job training and job placement assistance. The program also offers a hands-on energy boot camp with training in weatherization, home-efficiency upgrades and the safe installation of high-efficiency boilers.

It’s roughly 3 ½ months until Veterans’ Day, but we shouldn’t wait until that day to think about our veterans, what they’ve risked to preserve our freedoms and what we can do to thank them. I recently interviewed Mary Kennedy Thompson, president of Mr. Rooter, for Plumbing & Mechanical’s August issue cover story. While plumbing and drain-cleaning may not be the focus of your business, I thought you might be interested in the fact that she spent eight years in the Marine Corps and is currently the chair of the International Franchise Association’s VetFran committee, which gives returning veterans training and financial assistance to purchase a franchise operation.
As Thompson told me, veterans are not looking for a handout - they just want the opportunity to make a good living for their families. Isn’t that the least we can do for them?
