A. O. Smith announced the winners of two $2,500 scholarships for students pursuing plumbing-heating-cooling related studies.

The Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Educational Foundation administers the scholarship program — designed to attract the new talent essential to the future of the plumbing and HVACR industry — and is responsible for selecting the award winners.

The 2014 scholarship recipients are:

Isaiah Maher is working full-time at Plumbing Plus in Poway, Calif. He has set the goal of doing his best in school to establish a long-term career in the plumbing industry that will provide for his family. In his actions, he has proven that commitment to his instructors and employer.

Marco Montiel is working full-time at Anderson Plumbing, Heating & Air in El Cajon, Calif. He was handpicked by Anderson’s management team to begin learning the more complex field procedures in their pipe relining division because of his great attitude and work ethic.

Both are enrolled at the PHCC Apprentice Academy of San Diego.

“Since 2004, A. O. Smith has provided more than $55,000 in scholarships through PHCC,” said David Chisolm, vice president of marketing for A. O. Smith. “We are happy to provide that funding as part of continuous efforts to improve our industry and support the new workers contractors are looking to hire.”

To qualify for a PHCC Educational Foundation scholarship, students must submit a detailed application including a letter of recommendation from an active member of the PHCC — National Association and enroll in a plumbing-heating-cooling related course of study or apprentice program such as business management, construction management or science specializing in mechanical construction or mechanical engineering.
