January: A to Z Statewide Plumbing, Hollywood, Fla.
The company’s name and phone number are listed on the roofs of each of its six Isuzu NPR service trucks with Hackney bodies.
“We’ve always wanted to put the name on the roof since we do so much work in condos and high-rises,” explains A to Z Manager John Driscoll Jr. “We couldn’t do it with our vans because the roofs are rippled and ladder racks get in the way. When we got the super trucks, the first thing we lettered was the roof. The (body) wrap came after that.”

March: Foley's Plumbing and Heating, Danbury, Conn.
Eric Kuck wasted no time getting into the plumbing business.
“When I was 6, I would ride along with my father and help him out on my days off school,” says Kuck, whose father, Robert “Red” Kuck, started his 50-year plumbing career in 1955.

April: Jordan & Sons Plumbing, Florence, S.C.
The owner of South Carolina-based Jordan & Sons Plumbing outfits all his service trucks with GPS, while personnel are equipped with iPads and iPhones that generate electronic invoices and proposals.

February: Maccarone Plumbing and Heating, Glen Clove, N.Y.
“It’s a 1994 Ford and you can barely see the lettering on the side,” proudly notes Lou Maccarone Sr., who, after leading the company for 35 years, stepped down as president two years ago, but still maintains a key presence. “It has 260,000 miles on it and has never had the engine apart. That’s longevity. It’s been a godsend for us.”
May: Premier Plumbers of Texas, McKinney, Texas
When James Stinebaugh started McKinney, Texas-based Premier Plumbers of Texas in 2005, he wasn’t going into the venture with a blind eye. He previously was general manager of a new construction plumbing company.

June: East Coast Energy Group, Bronx, N.Y.
Bronx, N.Y.-based East Coast Energy Group had a specific strategy in mind when it changed the look on its plumbing service trucks.
The nearly 20-year-old company, which has plumbing, welding and boiler service divisions running out of its Bronx and Rockville Centre offices, noticed a change in how customers heat their facilities and homes in the area.

July: Aux Mechanical, Birmingham, Ala.
Birmingham, Ala.-based Aux Mechanical’s truck wrap is eye-catching. General manager PJ Smitherman notes the photo on the back door that depicts a waving service tech — his father, Aux President Phillip Smitherman — draws plenty of looks.

August: Roman Plumbing, Hudson, Fla.
When he first moved from Queens, N.Y., to the Tampa area, Frankie Roman’s company mainly focused on custom home plumbing work.
But the economy had other ideas for Hudson, Fla.-based Roman Plumbing. “Change got me through the economic downturn,” he says. “I had to adapt from doing new construction to doing primarily service work. I did have a background in service work from New York. We redirected our focus and I am glad I did it.”

September: GreenTeam Plumbing, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Of the seven trucks Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based GreenTeam Plumbing founder and President James Terry has on the road, his Ford LCF Diesel service truck stands out from the crowd.
“I would like to have 10 more like it,” he says. “They are hard to find. I like the truck because the wheelbase is short. It’s not a box truck, but it’s a big truck that turns on a dime.”

October: Pipe Doctor Plumbing, Woodmere, N.Y.
Mike Diack put his 2008 federal tax refund to good use.
Diack took the $5,000-and-change check and used the majority of it to purchase a used 2001 Chevy Astro cargo van. That was the start of Woodmere, N.Y.-based Pipe Doctor Plumbing, Heating & Air, which now serves Nassau County and the Rockaway Peninsula on Long Island.

November: Clover Services, Fairfax, Va.
Sometimes it’s OK to stick out like a sore thumb.
Fairfax, Va.-based Clover Services certainly subscribes to that theory. The plumbing, heating and air-conditioning contractor overhauled the look of its seven Sprinter service trucks last spring and has been reaping the rewards ever since.

December: Crystal Blue Plumbing, Heating & Air, Sacramento, Calif.
The back of Crystal Blue Plumbing, Heating & Air’s service trucks features a picture of an English bulldog. Meet 8-year-old Aly, who has turned more than a few heads on Sacramento streets.
“She’s been a shop dog since she was a puppy,” Crystal Blue co-owner Tim Sjobeck says. “I would take her out to home shows and other events. Everybody kept asking about my dog and things slowly grew from there.”
