How long have you been in the PHCP-PVF industry?
JH: 17 years — from warehouse helper stocking parts to my current position.
What drew you into the industry?
JH: I started out because, like most young folks who know that college isn’t right for them, I needed a starting point. A way to pay bills while I figured out what my long-term plan was going to be. That swiftly changed after becoming exposed to the vast array of options within the industry, now this industry has become my long-term plan and my passion.
What is the most rewarding aspect of working in the industry?
JH: The ability to go out and apply the knowledge with hard work in order to produce something that ultimately feeds our, and our employees, families.
What motivates you every day?
JH: The process. I am in love with the process. Knowing that if I can continue to master the day-to-day, react and overcome the unforeseen, the outcome is just a reasonable expectation.
What is one thing you wish more people knew/understood about the PHCP-PVF industry?
JH: The industry has so many pathways from design, inspectors, suppliers, technology-driven positions, estimators and sales — the options are endless. There is an option for both women and men of any background. They can and will find something that suits them.
What has been the proudest moment in your career so far?
JH: Being able to serve as the PAC subcommittee chairman for PHCC National has been an honor. I think being involved on all levels legislatively has been the part that I've been most proud. It’s definitely something I am blessed to be a part of.
What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
JH: I'm obsessed with our industry! Obsessed with the technology, the future class of plumbers and the overall perception of plumbers and HVAC techs. We have to make our industry marketable again. We have the people, the talent, and the technology to build it beyond expectation. We just need the right folks selling it, and public perception has to change.
