IAPMO announced that Dain Hansen, executive vice president of Government Relations, has been named one of The Hill’s Top 100 Lobbyists of 2024. This marks Hansen’s third consecutive time on this list, underscoring IAPMO’s impact on policies that strengthen global competitiveness and build community resiliency through standards, research, testing and certification. 

“Dain’s recognition is a testament to IAPMO’s continued leadership in promoting industry initiatives and removing trade barriers for a safer and more affordable built environment,” said IAPMO CEO Dave Viola. “Dain and his team continue to set the benchmark for policies and standards that benefit both communities and our industry.” 

Advancing Water Innovation and Competitiveness 

IAPMO led several policy-related wins for the plumbing and mechanical industry in 2024, including: 

  • President’s E-Star Award: The nation’s highest honor recognizing organizations for sustained excellence in increasing U.S. exports through innovative plumbing and mechanical solutions. This is the second time IAPMO has received this honor.  
  • Recognition of the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) by the U.S. Government: Secured official inclusion of the UPC in the U.S. General Services Administration Facilities Standards, cementing its role as a model for safe, efficient building practices globally.  
  • #March4Water Initiative: Advanced water access and sustainability goals through impactful Capitol Hill events during World Water Day.  
  • Updated Federal Standards: Successfully advocated for including rainwater capture compliance requirements in the U.S. General Services Administration’s Facilities Standards, reinforcing sustainable water management practices across the federal building portfolio. 
  • National High-Performance Buildings Week: Supported efforts to highlight advances in energy-efficient, sustainable, and resilient building practices.

The Hill Top 100 Lobbyists list is compiled annually, highlighting professionals who demonstrate leadership, strategic vision, and impact on key legislative and regulatory issues. In 2023,The Hillestimated there are more than 12,500 active lobbyists in Washington, D.C.
