Every year on March 11, the international plumbing community comes together to celebrate World Plumbing Day. World Plumbing Day is an initiative created by the World Plumbing Council (WPC) in 2010. The day aims to spread awareness of the importance of plumbing and plumbers in protecting public health and improving access to clean water and sanitation facilities.
According to the WPC, over 1 billion people gained access to piped water supplies between 2000 and 2015 and the global population of people who used safely managed sanitation services increased from 28% in 2000 to 39% in 2015.
March 11 is marked by celebrations, competitions, seminars and activities all around the world. People from within and outside the plumbing fraternity come together to learn, share knowledge, build connections and find opportunities to collaborate to improve the quality of, and access to, fresh water and safe sanitation.
To celebrate this day, Plumbing & Mechanical and PM Engineer Chief Editor Nicole Krawcke interviewed PHCC CEO Cindy Sheridan, ASA Codes and Standards Director Jim Kendzel, ASA Recruitment Marketing Director Steve Edwards, and PMI Executive Director and CEO Kerry Stackpole about current issues facing the plumbing industry, including sustainability, workforce development and more.
